Wheely Good Bicycles

Mobile service based in Chorley, Lancashire

Repairs, servicing, upgrades, bespoke bicycle builder, second-hand bikes

Some Background

Our City & Guilds qualified bicycle mechanic, Laura, is an enthusiastic cyclist and a member of the Cyclists Touring Club (CTC) and Audax UK, the long-distance cyclist's organisation, and likes nothing bettter than to pack a rucksack and pedal her moutain-bike off into the wilds of Scotland for a couple of days combining cycling with her life-long passion for climbing mountains. Somehow she also finds time to fly her paraglider!

Laura trained at The Bike Inn and set up Wheely Good Bicycles in 2005 with the aim of providing a personal, friendly, affordable and quality service to cyclists of all kinds. We are a mobile service as we recognise that it isn't always easy, or even possible, to get to a bike shop to get your bike fixed - today's lives are so full of busy - you've got the kids to get to school, get to work, or both, so the last thing you want is the hassle of having to get the bike in your car or having to hang around until the repair shop opens. We'll either fix it on the spot if is is a simple job or we'll collect your bike and deliver it back when it's repaired.

Where are we?

Our home is in the delightful village of Whittle-le-Woods, near Chorley in Lancashire and we are just at one end of the Cuerden Valley Cycle Route linking Chorley and Preston via Sustrans National Route 55 and just off Regional Route 91 on the southern loop of the Lancashire Cycleway which takes cyclists through 250 miles plus of the best Lancashire countryside. So if you are passing our front door then call in for a cup of tea and a chat about everything cycling.

What we do

Our primary business is to fix bicycles. Unlike some of the larger chains we wil not turn away if your bike is difficult or not a mountain style machine. Honestly we know this happens....our customers constantly tell us of such experiences. That is now a thing of the past! From the most modern cycle to restoring veteran and vintage bicycles we have the knowhow. We are currently the proud owners of a Raleigh Superbe in fabulous condition and are restoring a wartime Hercules for a customer.

We stock a range of spares including brand names such as Shimano, Sunrace, Continental etc. From the basics such as inner tubes, cables and brake blocks through to full group sets and accessories such as computers, lights and pumps.Well you get the idea. And if we don't have it to hand we can usually have it within a day or so, and at a competitive price!

We also carry a full range of original spares for Hope hubs, head sets and disc brakes for which we are pleased to offer servicing/bleeding facilities. That said we can service and repair hydraulic brakes from all the other makers too!

Occasionally we will have new and used bicycles for sale so keep an eye on our For Sale section for a bargain!

A cautionary Note

Please, please be very careful buying bikes from E-Bay.!

While E-Bay itself is a great idea and there are many reputable dealers selling on it, there are also what appear to be 'catalogue returns' being sold off cheap and we are called in to help when frustrated owners cannot get them working. Most , in fact currently all the bikes we have been asked to fix in this category we have advised our customer to return them as 'not fit for purpose'.

Faults found are generally broken missing spokes, bent wheels, absolutely dismal construction/assembly quality, missing instructions and parts etc, etc

The moral is don't buy unseen but go to a proper bike shop. At least you have some recourse if things aren't right and if you must buy off the web do check out the goods return conditions first
